Privacy Policy

The short version: Your journal stays on your device. We cannot access what you write, and we never sell your data to anyone.

Who we are

Inklings is a journaling app made for iOS. The app is developed as a personal tool where you can write one thought a day, look back on your life, and send notes to your future self.

Data we collect

Inklings is designed with privacy at its core. Here is what is stored — and where:

Journal entries and notes — stored exclusively on your iPhone. No server. No cloud (unless you have iCloud enabled, see below).
Photos you attach — stored locally in the app's sandbox on your device.
Settings (such as dark mode and reminder time) — stored locally via the iOS system.

iCloud sync

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, journal data is synced via your personal iCloud account. This means:

Data is stored in your private iCloud account, not on our servers.
Only you have access — we cannot read your content.
Apple's privacy policies apply to iCloud storage: apple.com/legal/privacy

AI stories

The AI stories feature uses Apple Intelligence on supported devices. All AI processing happens on your device — no text data is sent to Apple's servers or to us.

On devices without Apple Intelligence, a local text template is used. No data leaves your device.

Notifications and reminders

If you enable daily reminders or time capsule notifications, these are scheduled locally on your device via iOS. No data about your notification preferences is sent to us.

Third parties

We do not use any third-party analytics tools, ad networks, or tracking services. The app sends no data to any third party.

Children

Inklings is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you are fully in control:

Deletion: You can delete all data from Settings within the app.
Export: You can export your journal as text or PDF from Settings.
Uninstalling: Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy as needed. Significant changes will be communicated via an app update. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
